The subsidiary of the Vivendi Group in Africa, launches on July 10, 2024 the CanalBox internet offer service.

Since its creation in 2015, the company has gradually expanded to Africa by offering a broadband connection to an entire continent. Uganda is his eighth conquered country, after that of Congo, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Togo, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The owner of Canal+ Africa has put an investment amounting to almost 50 billion Ugandan shillings equivalent to 13.5 million dollars to cover the large part of the capital.

For now, the network reaches more than 140,000 homes and businesses and its goal is to reach 500,000 people in the coming years.

This launch aims to squarely strengthen competition on the Ugandan Internet market, currently dominated by telecom operators Airtel, MTN, Uganda Telecommunications Corporation Limited (UTel) and also the virtual operator Lyca Mobile.

The introduction of the CanalBox service should not only intensify competition but also improve the quality of services while reducing costs for consumers, in a context where Uganda’s digital transformation is accelerating.

The country already has 27.7 million Internet users, with a penetration rate of 61% according to the latest data from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).

The Internet is recognized as a powerful lever for social and economic transformation, profoundly changing the way people live, work and interact, according to Thomas Tayebwa, deputy speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, during the launch ceremony.
